MissionNeurodiverging Well is a physician-led medical education and consultation practice created by Laura T. Ekka, MD, a dual board-certified physician in Internal Medicine and Pediatrics with over a decade of clinical experience. The practice focuses on neuro-affirming approaches to health and healthcare for people of all neurotypes, including those who identify as neurodivergent and those who are neurotypical. Many people find that the way their mind works interacts with their health in meaningful ways. This may include differences in:• sensory processing
• attention and executive function
• stress response and burnout
• behavioral patterns and habitsThese factors can influence:• medical conditions
• disease risk
• lifestyle choices
• healthcare decision-makingThe goal of Neurodiverging Well is to help individuals better understand their health and navigate the medical system with greater clarity and confidence.
How the Practice WorksNeurodiverging Well offers two main ways to participate.1) Individual consultative medical visits
2) Educational group programsBoth services are provided through telehealth for individuals located in North Carolina at the time of participation.Educational programs sometimes lead participants to schedule an individual consultation if they would like to explore their own health questions in greater depth.
Individual Consultative Medical VisitsThese one-on-one visits allow you to explore health questions in depth and place them within a broader medical context.Topics we may discuss include:• understanding prior medical evaluations• possible diagnoses or health patterns• lifestyle factors that influence health• navigating complex medical systems• questions to raise with your primary care physician or specialists• pathways for further evaluation• laboratory studies that might be considered• medication categories sometimes used for certain conditions• types of therapies that may be helpful• referrals that may be worth discussing with your physiciansThese visits function similarly to educational second-opinion style discussions.Recommendations discussed during the visit are intended to help you have more informed conversations with your own healthcare providers, who remain responsible for ordering tests, prescribing medications, and managing treatment. You may schedule additional consultations if you would like to explore new questions or follow up on previous discussions. However:• there is no expectation of ongoing longitudinal care• each visit is designed to be a self-contained consultation
Educational Group ProgramsNeurodiverging Well also offers structured educational group programs addressing common health topics.Examples of topics may include:• understanding specific diagnoses• lifestyle considerations related to health conditions• general information about medication categories• navigating the healthcare system• understanding how neurotype may interact with healthSessions include:• physician-led teaching• facilitated discussion• opportunities to ask general questionsThese programs are intended to improve health literacy and shared learning, rather than provide individualized medical care.Participants who would like individualized guidance may choose to schedule a separate individual consultation.
Privacy in Group ProgramsParticipants may choose to share personal experiences or health information during group discussions.Because these programs occur in a group setting:• participants control what information they disclose• confidentiality among participants cannot be guaranteed• individuals should share only what they are comfortable discussingParticipation agreements will explain these expectations.
Public Educational ContentNeurodiverging Well also shares general health education through public platforms such as:• YouTube• Instagram• TikTokThese resources are intended to improve public understanding of health and healthcare navigation.Viewing this content does not create a physician–patient relationship.Comments or information voluntarily shared on social media platforms are public, and there should be no expectation of privacy regarding information individuals choose to disclose online.
What This Practice Does Not ProvideNeurodiverging Well is not a primary care practice. The practice does not provide:• primary care services• ongoing medical management• emergency care• crisis services• hospital-based care• proceduresAt this time, the practice does not prescribe medications, including controlled substances.Patients are expected to maintain relationships with their primary care physicians and specialists for ongoing medical care.
